Lottery Enrollment

Our lottery drawing for the 2017-2018 school year will be held on Friday, March 10. The lottery is only for new students hoping to fill open positions. In order to have your child be part of our admissions process,  you must enter his/her name on the form below. More information to follow re: time and place of drawing.

Any child who is a resident of North Carolina and meets the age requirements is eligible to attend Water’s Edge Village School, which does not discriminate on any basis, including race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, religion, or disability.

WEVS is capped for the coming school year at 36 students total K-8th.

If the number of applicants does not exceed our maximum capacity, no lottery will be held, all applicants will be offered a spot, and any additional applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

If WEVS has openings and the number of applicants exceeds that number, open seats will be granted to students through an impartial lottery drawing. That drawing will take place for the 2017-2018 school year on Friday, March 10, 2017.

If there are any unfilled seats or openings for the 2017-2018 year after the lottery drawing (either because students whose names are called in the lottery decline the seats or because current students who committed to returning have a change of plans) they will be filled by the remaining names from the lottery roster in the order they were called on the day of the lottery and then with names added after the lottery, in order the names were provided to us.

No new students are admitted to WEVS 2nd semester – interested families must enter their child into the lottery for the coming year.

In the event of a lottery,

·      Applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of the drawing and may be present to witness the drawing.

·      An impartial person (librarian or elected official) drawing names will blindly choose every name card, one at a time, from a container and shall read it aloud. An impartial person will confirm and record the names in the exact order drawn.  All names of all registered students shall be pulled and noted in the order in which they were read.

  • Four drawings will be held if some applicants are siblings of currently enrolled students.

    • 1st drawing: Names of siblings of current students will be entered into a first lottery drawing. Names will be drawn until there are no more names in the container or until all seats are filled.

    • 2nd drawing:  Kindergarten-1: Students in the K-1 learn in the smaller room of our schoolhouse. There is a maximum of 8 k-1 students total for 2017-2018.

    • 3rd drawing – Grades 2-7

    • 4th drawing - 8th grade

  • Siblings applying together will have their names on one sheet of paper, placed in the vessel of the younger student.

·      The official lists of all applicants/sibling groups in the drawing(s) will be open to inspection by the applicants for a 30-minute period prior to the scheduled drawing.

 ·      Parents/guardians who are not present at the drawing will be notified whether or not their child has been given a spot.

 ·      Parents must to commit or decline within 7 calendar days of notification, whether or not a lottery is held.

 ·      In the event that a parent declines a spot, that spot will be offered to the next child on the appropriate list (sibling, then K-1, etc) and his or her parents/guardians will be contacted. This procedure will continue until there are no remaining openings.

If your child is awarded a spot, a registration packet will be sent to you for completion. If you have any questions regarding these procedures, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 252-455-9449 or at

Thanks again for your interest and we look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely, The Water’s Edge Village School Staff and Corolla Education Foundation Board
