Sylvia Wolff - WEVS teacher since 2014
Sylvia teaches grades 2-8 ELA, middle school media/coding, and health. She is an original founder and board member of our school and transitioned to a teaching role in 2014. After completing her elementary education degree at Purdue University, she moved to Corolla in 2001, took over the local Ocean Rescue program as the Division Chief in 2004 and is still involved in the kids ocean safety programs. She is currently pursuing and almost finished with her master’s in school administration from UNCW.
Marcy Moore - WEVS teacher since 2016
Marcy teaches our k/1 classroom, and many of their electives. Marcy comes to us with almost two decades of teaching experience, most recently in Richmond, Virginia, before she moved down to Corolla when her husband retired. She loves the WEVS family and the community that supports it. She grew up in Richmond, VA, and received her degree in elementary education from VCU and her master’s from Piedmont University.
Liz Fennimore - WEVS teacher since 2016, Special Education Coordinator
Liz teaches our middle elementary math and science, as well as our elementary art and middle school music. She hails from New Jersey, where she was a special education aide. She is an inspired teacher as well as artist. Liz graduated from Rowan University with a bachelor's degree in Art Education. After that she attended Rutgers University to gain graduate credits for her Special Education certification. She has spent her last several summers working in the Mystic Jewel and Mystic Gift in TimBuckII.
Sean Sonnenberg - WEVS teacher since 2015
Sean teaches our upper level math and science classes, and elementary PE. He started his teaching career at WEVS as a substitute and then a part-time teacher before he moved to Philadelphia to teach in an alternative, project-based high school for a year. He’s a long-time Corolla beach lifeguard but also the builder of our gaga-pit and an all-around enthusiast of hands-on learning. He received his undergrad in science and math from Baldwin Wallace University and his master’s in education from Findlay University.
Julie Allen, Special Education Aide since 2018
Julie returns to education after an 18-year career in Fire and EMS. Prior to that, she used her Bachelor’s special education and elementary education from Fitchburg State and her master’s in rehab for the blind from Boston College to teach blind and special needs students in Florida and then in Massachusetts. She has taught across all grade levels and learning needs. She has resided on the Outer Banks for over 20 years.
Kat is our 2018-2019 Teachers’ Assistant thanks to the Rural Education Achievement Program grant we received. She grew up on the Outer Banks and received her BS in Psychology from UNC-Charlotte with a minor in Children’s literature. She has her TEFL/TESOL certification and tutored for Mano al Hermano while she substitute taught for us last year. She is currently working on her masters of teaching.

Meghan Agresto, President
Meghan is a founding member and original board member, who started the process of the school in 2008. She has managed the Currituck Beach Lighthouse since 2005. She is a two-time UNC-Chapel Hill graduate with a master’s of social work with a concentration in non-profit management (2005), and a bachelor’s in Ancient Greek (1997). She speaks Spanish fluently and spent two years living in Greece, one as a Fulbright scholar.
Al Marzetti, Vice President
Al joined the Board of Directors in 2012, the year the school opened its doors! He currently serves as magistrate of Corolla, and sits on several community boards, including Corolla Fire and Rescue Foundation, Ocean Sands Property Owner’s Association, and the Ocean Sands Crown Point Service District for Watershed Improvements Advisory Board. He brings a wealth of financial and legal knowledge with education from degrees from Boston College, Columbus School of Law at Catholic University, Georgetown Law Center, and Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Dee Werner, Secretary
Dee earned her bachelor’s in English Education from Old Dominion University and her master’s in education from UVA in School Leadership and Administration. She has 29 years of experience in teaching and administration. She taught English at Norview High School, Norfolk Academy, and Currituck Middle. Dee then moved into Alternative Education by working with students at The Pines Residential Treatment Center and inmates at St. Bride’s Correctional Facility. After receiving her Masters degree, she was an Assistant Principal at Elizabeth City Middle School for four years and then Chowan Middle School for two years. She then went on to be Principal of the Deep Creek SECEP school in Chesapeake, Virginia, which served severely emotionally disabled children.
Bryan Daggett, Treasurer
Bryan comes to us after a 30+ year career with DuPont, which allowed him to travel extensively, both nationally and internationally. He joined our board in 2012 and continues to volunteer his services as WEVS, both in an instructional capacity and as a handyman!
Susan is a founding board member and retired science teacher with 37 years of experience in Baltimore County Public Schools. She has a liberal arts degree with a major in biology and a minor in education from St. Joseph College, in Emmitsburg, Maryland. She has been a Corolla resident for over 15 years, and is involved in many community organizations including Corolla Friends of the Library, Corolla Fire and Rescue, NC Coastal Federation, and Planning Board for Currituck County.
Frieda is a founding board member, private tutor, and taught in Guilford and Currituck County schools. She graduated from Guilford College with a BA in psychology and elementary education.
Gerri is our newest member of the board, joining in 2018. She received her degree in Business Administration from Old Dominion and her Teacher Certification from the University of Missouri. She went on to receive a Masters Degree in Resource and Collaborative Teaching from William and Mary. She has more than 20 years teaching experience in elementary, high school, and special education classrooms.
Our board of directors now meets monthly at 2pm at the Corolla's County Office Meeting Room (other side of the Corolla library) on the 2nd Wednesday of every month. Calendar below. The meetings are public and all are welcome. Minutes posted on separate page.
